Notes From The Winemaker: The Englora's name comes from about one of the emblematic top of the Montsant's Mountain Range, which tops highs more than 100 mts above sea level. Our logotype is an abstract and personal representation of the mentioned top. It is the most modern wine in our family. We have tried with this wine to boost the fruit of every variety of grapes and combine it with a light note of barrel. The Englora is not submitted to any finning treatment, neither stabilization or filtration. 73% of the barrels used in the aging process come from the Allier, Troncais and Centre French forests and the remaining 27% from the American Oaks of Tennessee area. The toast degrees are 98% medium, and the remaining 2% high toast. The barrels age is 0, 1 and 2 years. The grapes for this elaboration come from aged vineyards: 70 years old Grenache, 50 years old Carignen and about 25 years old the remaining varieties. The yield per hectare is very low: 0.5 kg per plant in Grenache and Carignen 1.5-2kg ni the rest of the varieties. Regarding the culture works, very strict winter and spring prunings have been conducted along with a 30% cluster's clear up during summer season to increase grapes quality. High scores in different guides and many taste remarks as much national and international magazines.
Robert Parker: 91 points. The 2004 Englora is composed of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Garnacha,16% Carinena, and 3% other varieties aged for 9 months in French and American oak. Inky purple, it offers an enticing perfume of cedar, pencil lead, mineral, spice box, black cherry, and blueberry. The wine is full-bodied with serious depth and length but is slightly compressed in the finish. A few years of cellaring should flesh this wine out and it will then provide gratification through 2024.
