Spain: Pla de Bages

               Oller del Mas

At the foot of the Montserrat mountain in the heart of Catalonia, lies a majestic medieval castle with 437 hectares of vineyards and forests surrounding it. Once belonging to Arnau Oller, a noble knight who fought in the "Reconquista" of Barcelona and Catalonia in 964, the estate is now owned by his heirs, the Margenat family. Located in Pla de Bages DO, Oller del Mas profits from the unique microclimate found in this small appellation: a mediterranean continental climate with very little rainfall and good diurnal temperature swings. With a climate that fiercely challenges the grapes to grow, yields are very low and production is small, but the quality is exceptional. The stunning vineyards and grapevines are meticulously cared for as Oller del Mas is an organic estate (the property will soon receive its official certification by the CCPAE). Oller del Mas combines ancient history and modernity with a new cellar and high tech winery. The wines are a result of the passion and dedication of the Margenat family to create wines that represent the history, elegant finesse and subtle power of their incredible terroir.
