           Walnut City Wine Works

After growing, grafting, and planting more than a million vines in Yamhill County for over 20 years, in 1999, John Davidson and John Gilpin along with winemaker Zac Spence created Walnut City WineWorks to produce great wines from the ground up.

Currently managing over 200 acres of vineyards in Willamette Valley, the wines of Walnut City WineWorks are a product of the principals’ significant talents and experience. Through practiced and meticulous stewardship in the vineyard, careful attention to yield, and minimalist winemaking techniques, Walnut City WineWorks clearly demonstrates winemaking at its best.

                  Z’Ivo Winery

Part of the Walnut City WineWorks family of wines, Z’Ivo was created by John Zelko. Having fallen in love with Willamette Valley wines, John spent over a decade learning Oregon winemaking. Later, with sound knowledge under his belt he went in search of the perfect site.

In 1995, he located a 40 acre rocky hillside vineyard in the northernmost tip of the Eola Hills region and began planting. Z’Ivo grows single vineyard Pinot Noir in Yamhill and Woodburn soils, shallow sedimentary soils that result in rich deep colored wines. At first, Z’Ivo produced their beloved wines solely for friends and family. Their first commercial vintage was not released until 2000.

                      iOTA Cellars

iOTA means small quantity and represents the winemakers' focus. Johanna and Don Sandberg moved from Minnesota to Portland in 1999, after a visit in 1998 to scope out the feasibility of growing grapes and making wine, specifically pinot noir, in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. By 2000, they had moved from Portland to "wine country", living on the future vineyard site to oversee the land development. Lynne and Perry Pelos, relatives and partners of the Sandbergs, lived and worked in Minnesota until summer of 2009, when they made a big move west to California, bringing them physically closer to Oregon. Lynne is directly involved in the vineyard and wine business.
