Talisman Hawk Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir Russian

River Valley 2005

ITEM # THHPN050375 (Half bottle format)

Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir (Pommard and Dijon 115 clones)

Viticulture & Vinfication Notes: The fruit is sourced from a particularly

cool vineyard site only 10 miles from the coastline that features 19

year old vines. Long growing season. Both clones co-fermented

inoculated by indigenous yeasts and then macerated before being transferred to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation. Bottled

after being barrel aged in 60% new French oak for 18 months. Very limited production.

Notes From The Winemaker: 2005 Hawk Hill Pinot noir is a strikingly

inky, intense wine. The perfumed aroma is layered with mineral, blackberry, plum, violets, and tobacco. Incensed notes of sandlewood,

bramble, and cedar shavings contribute additional complexity. This

wine is big and dense, with an extraordinary life ahead of it. The

flavors are foreshadowed by the aromas and mingled with even more layers of toasty oak, earthy brambles, and Bing cherry. The finish is

very juicy and extraordinarily persistent. This will be a very long-lived wine that will reward those with the patience for cellaring for at least a decade to come.

Pinot Report: 92 Points. Medium-deep ruby color; complex, spicy,

forest floor aromas with dark cherry notes; ripe and deep with dark cherry flavors and earthy forest floor notes; sweet oak and a bit of

tannin; good structure and balance; long finish. A deep and very interesting Pinot with complex forest floor nuances. Needs time in the bottle and glass.
