Viu Manent Reserve Chardonnay Casablanca 2007

ITEM # VMRCH07
Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
Viticulture & Vinification Notes: The grapes were sourced from two different growers in the upper Casablanca Valley whose vineyards feature 13-15 year old vines and free-draining alluvial/clay soils. At harvest the grapes were hand-selected, destemmed, and the must was permitted 12 hours of skin contact before fermentation in 33% new and 67% used French oak. The wine was then barrel aged for 7 months.
Notes From The Winemaker: On the nose notes of red delicious apple, white peach and pineapple dominate. In the mouth ample notes of pear and honeysuckle combine with just a hint of cumin and ginger leading to a zingy citrus finish accompanied by just a hint of spicy oak. Ready to drink now or cellar for 2 years. Enjoy with fresh pasta, seafood, salads, mixed grilled vegetables or a roast chicken.
Wine Spectator Magazine: Soft and forward, with sweet toast, pear and butter notes.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine: 90 Points. For a first effort from Casablanca,
Viu Manent has hit a home run. This wine is a classic New World Chard, meaning it's liberally oaked, vibrant, ripe and full of tropical fruit. But along with the obvious there are also notes of cinnamon, mineral, exotic apple and butterscotch. Named Top 100 Wines of 2008.
