Viu Manent Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Colchagua 2005

ITEM # VMCSSV05

Varietal: 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Malbec

Viticulture & Vinification Notes: Grapes sourced from La Capilla vineyard. 16 year old vines in shallow volcanic-ash topsoil over a hard-rock pan. Hand-selected best bunches, cold soaked, malolactic fermentation in barrel, and barrel aged in 100% new French oak for 18 months.

Notes From The Winemaker: Intense ruby red in colour this wine offers up a nose redolent of blackcurrant, cacao and spiced plum. In the mouth gob-smacking ripe fruit flavours of black cherry, mocha and cinnamon dominate. Ample yet well rounded tannins impart fine structure and an elegant finish.

International Wine Cellar: 87 points. Dark purple. Primary dark berry nose opens to reveal a spicy, floral bouquet. Sweet and velvety, with strong cherry-vanilla and candied licorice flavors; picks up gentle tannins with air. I'd drink this supple midweight on the young side, for its fruit.

Robert Parker: 88 Points. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon “La Capilla Estate” (with 13% Malbec added to the blend) is dark ruby-colored. It offers aromas of pain grille, spice box, vanilla, black cherry and black currants. It is more structured than the less expensive wines with a solid core of black fruits on the mid-palate. The finish is slightly compact but 2-3 years of bottle age should round out this tasty Cabernet.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine: 88 Points. Fairly woody at first, with cassis,
berry and lemon rind on the nose. The palate is chunky and round, with flavors of black currant, blackberry and spice. Toward the end hickory and sap come up, which brings you back to that woodiness of the bouquet.
