Viu Manent Viu 1 Colchagua 2007

ITEM # VMVIU07
Varietal: 88% Malbec, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon
Viticulture & Vinification Notes: Grapes sourced from San Carlos vineyard. 80 year old vines in free-draining alluvial loam/clay soils. Hand-selected best fruit and cold soaked before undergoing malolactic fermentation in barrel. Aged 24 months in 100% new French oak.
Notes From The Winemaker: Viu 1 is the result of men's work and nature's wisdom which, wilfully, blesses some of its cycles with exceptional conditions. This unique wine is produced only in these outstanding years, using a rigorous selection of premium grapes, worthy tribute to the memory of who conceived it, Don Miguel Viu Manent.
Wine Enthusiast: 92 Points. Typically this ranks as the best Malbec in Chile, and the 2004 keeps things going in the right direction. The bouquet is mainly, tight, oaky and full of monstrous black fruit. Licorice, blackberry pie and espresso are your key flavors, while the feel is dense but assuringly friendly.
Wine Spectator: 89 Points. Opaque purple. Exotically purfumed bouquet of ripe, dark berries, incense, Indian spices and mocha. Lush, creamy and sweet, with deep blackberry and cassis flavors, supple tannins and excellent finishing thrust. There's a good dose of oak here, but the fruit handles it will.
